The Doomsday Boulders

Although it may seem like the LA division of Scientia Collective has been slacking hard this summer, I’ve actually been putting in some work in to develop a new little area in the Santa Monica Mountains!  It’s been oppressively hot here recently and instead of driving the distance out to Black Mountain, where I know it’s still going to be hot, I chose to focus on finding something new in my backyard.  After some late night google map searches and a couple of failed excursions, Brett and I stumbled onto an area off of Kanan Dume which is exactly what we had been looking for.  The Doomsday Boulders, as we are calling them, are host to a lot of easy to moderate climbs with a few harder lines thrown in on water polished rock.  During wetter years I’m not entirely sure how accessible this place will be, as the approach includes downclimbing a big limestone encrusted waterfall and some of the starts that were used looked to be under the waterline in years past.  Only one way to find out I guess.  So far there’s about 25+ problems in a few different areas, but there’s definitely still projects out there.  I’m hoping that by putting this out there I can get more people down there with new sets of eyes to further develop the area.  Check it out and let me know what you think.  if you think you’ve done something new make sure to get a good picture of it and let me know the details in terms of what grade you think it is, general description of the climb and when I have enough additions I’ll update this thing.  My grading is lousy at best, so feedback on the grades in here would be greatly appreciated.  Click the cover below for the mini-guide!
